Chrysoprase cabochon

This chrysoprase is handcut in a beautiful teardrop shape. It measures 21mmx12mm and is 6.8mm deep. It is uniform in color, and completely untreated. The source is most likely India. 

There are always two birthstones for each month. May is generally known for emerald, but the alternative is chrysoprase which is a beautiful yellowish green material generally cut into cabochons. This is a green form of chalcedony, a lovely translucent variety of agate. It is a specific type of silica that contains nickel which gives it a brilliant green color. Said to bring happiness and joy, it certainly is a more economical choice!
